Yes, for one of the PCFs we've requested, please include packaging data. Be sure to indicate in the product description which product you've chosen to include packaging data for. You can select any product (out of the products requested) that you prefer.

If the PCF is spend-based, please use the M2030 builder to re-build the PCF for the Product. If the PCF is not spend-based, please contact the GM PCF Pilot Program Sponsor, Jeremy, to let him know you have a PCF to share.

Please note: M2030 will soon have an import PCF/LCA function to enable data sharing.

An LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) are both tools used to evaluate the environmental impact of products, but they differ in scope and focus:

LCA (Life Cycle Assessment)

• LCA is a comprehensive method that assesses the environmental impacts of a product, process, or service throughout its entire life cycle. This includes all stages from raw material extraction, manufacturing, distribution, use, and disposal (cradle-to-grave).
• LCA considers multiple environmental impacts, not just carbon emissions. This includes factors like Ozone depletion, Ecotoxicity, and Acidification, among others.

Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)

• PCF is a subset of LCA, focused specifically on the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with a product throughout its life cycle.
• It quantifies the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO₂) and other GHGs (measured in CO₂ equivalents, CO₂e) emitted during a product's life cycle. This can involve the same life cycle stages as LCA (cradle-to-grave), but the focus is, typically, chiefly on carbon emissions, and cradle-to-gate.

The deadline is 31st December, but we encourage you to get started as soon as possible.

Once the PCF is built, and the deadline of 31st December is reached, the PCFs built with part numbers in the Product description will be shared with GM.

Please note: M2030 will soon have a feature in-platform to enable PCF data submission to customer requests.

We are requesting that the cut-off allocation approach be used for recycled materials, so the carbon footprint associated with transportation and processing of the recycled materials must be accounted for, but the recycled materials do not carry any of the carbon footprint associated with production of the original material. If your product is made from a blend of virgin and recycled materials, you will need to list input materials separately to see the benefit. Please note, that the M2030 default material emission factors for recycled materials are from the cut-off version of the Ecoinvent database, and so align with the Catena-X rulebook.

If the facility exists but is inactive, you may need to renew its license to reactivate it. If the facility doesn't exist on the platform, you will need to create a new facility and purchase a license for it

A Product Carbon Footprint is a measure of the total greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production of a specific product or service.

It can encompass all stages of a product’s lifecycle, from raw material extraction to manufacturing, distribution, use, and disposal.

The M2030 PCF tool leverages several emission factor databases, including Ecoinvent, GLEC, 2006 IPCC Guidelines, and GWI, among others.

Yes, you can input custom emission factors into the M2030 tool. For example, if you have primary emission factor data from a direct supplier or more accurate secondary data from an external database, you can use these to improve the accuracy of your PCF. Just follow the instructions within the M2030 PCF builder.

Yes, you can share your existing PCF with your customer using the "import PCF" feature in the M2030 PCF platform.

The M2030 PCF Builder is designed to generate cradle-to-gate PCFs. This scope assesses the environmental impact of a product, from raw material extraction (‘cradle’) to the point where the product leaves the manufacturing facility (‘gate’) or reaches the retailer ('retail gate'). It includes all processes involved in manufacturing up to this point, such as material extraction, pre-processing, and transportation.

Manufacture 2030 maintains administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to protect the security, confidentiality and integrity of customer data as required by law. These safeguards include encryption of data in transmission (using SSL or similar technologies). Manufacture 2030 is ISO 27001 certified with an Information Security Management System (ISMS) aligned to ISO 27001 in place and are compliant to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Manufacture 2030’s commitment to GDPR and CCPA principles are reflected throughout the Privacy Policy.

Commercial data is not shared with any other party, e.g., only suppliers apportioned environmental savings data is shared with its customers. Any financial savings made by implementing efficiency measures are not shared with any organization other than the supplier company itself.
